Bestseller!

Through Many Fires is again a bestseller, reaching #5 on the Amazon War Bestseller list.

What sparked the return to those lofty ranks is the upcoming release of the sequel, A Time to Endure. As part of the promotion we’ve lowered the ebook price of Through Many Fires to 99 cents and done some advertising. Consequently, Through Many Fires is currently #5 on the Amazon war fiction bestseller list and on two other bestseller lists

In the first novel, Through Many Fires, Strengthen What Remains, book 1, terrorists smuggle a nuclear bomb into Washington D.C. and detonate it during the State of the Union address. Army veteran and congressional staffer, Caden Westmore in nearby Bethesda, watches as a mushroom cloud grows over the capital. The next day as he drives away from the still burning city, he learns another city has been destroyed, and then another. America is under siege. Panic ensues and society begins to unravel.

A Time to Endure, Strengthen What Remains, book 2, starts the same day the first novel ends. Caden struggles to keep his family and community alive as the nation’s economy teeters on the verge of collapse, the dollar plunges, inflation runs rampant, and the next civil war threatens to decimate the wounded country.

A Time to Endure is available for preorder now on Kindle, Nook, Kobo and Smashwords. On December 12th the paperback edition will be released and the audiobook will follow shortly afterwards.

The Sound of Final Duty

I’ve always thought that Final Duty, the novella that leads off my anthology would be a great audiobook.

In Final Duty, Lieutenant Amy Palmer returns to the Altair star system, onboard the reconnaissance ship Mirage, twenty years after the death of her father during the Battle of Altair. Almost immediately disaster strikes and Amy, along with the rest of the Mirage crew, must face the possibility of performing their final duties.

I imagined the story as more than an audiobook with at least a female and male voice actor and even some sound effects. It would then be a hybrid, or as it is called in the industry, a multi-cast, more than an audiobook, but less than a full radio play.

However, such a production would be expensive, the story is short, about 15,000 words, and I give away the ebook. It’s really hard to sell an expensive audiobook when you give away the ebook. So, although I thought it would be fun, it was a project that would probably never be done.

But then my sons decided to split the cost and give it to me as a Father’s Day present.

Wow!

We’ve been working on the project since before Father’s Day. We hired Brick Shop Audio, a New York City audiobook company to produce the project and two voice actors, Erin Mallon and Michael Braun. They all did a fantastic job of bringing our script to life.

The project is now complete and you can hear a sample on Audible here or on my website here.

Release Date!

The release date for my next novel, A Time to Endure, has been set.

The exciting saga of Major Caden Westmore continues. In the first book of the Strengthen What Remains series, Through Many Fires, nuclear terrorism destroys six American cities, leaving the nation in chaos.

In the second novel, A Time to Endure, the economy teeters on collapse. The dollar plunges, inflation runs rampant, and the next civil war threatens to decimate the wounded country. In the face of tyranny, panic, and growing hunger, Caden struggles to keep his family and town together. But how can he save his community when the nation is collapsing around it? A Time to Endure will be released four months from today on December 12th of this year.

A third book is planned, but that is another story.

The front and back cover for A Time to Endure are complete and much of the book is now in the editing process. There is still much to be done behind the scenes, but barring unforeseen problems, the book will be released in paperback and on Kindle December 12th. Shortly thereafter, the novel will be released on Nook, Kobo, Smashwords and as an Audiobook.

Titan Audiobook Released!

Work began Titan Encounter audiobook in early March and now it is done.

We started by having Micah Hansen design a cover and moved on to listening to auditions. It didn’t take long to select actor Jeffrey Fellin to produce and narrate the novel. Jeffrey has extensive experience in both film and theater and the right voice for the book.

As Jeffrey completed the chapters my wife, Lorraine performed the first quality check, then beta-readers listened and finally it came back to me for a final QC.

There were delays and technical problems but by mid-May we turned the project over to Audible.com for final technical checks.

Titan Encounter is now available in paperback, Kindle, online in most other ereader formats and now as an audiobook on Audible.com. It will soon be available on iTunes.

The unabridged, five hour, Titan Encounter audiobook is available here on Audible.com.

Titan Audiobook

Titan Encounter, my bestselling science fiction space adventure, will soon be available as an audiobook.

The actor Jeffrey Fellin has agreed to produce and narrate the novel. Jeffrey has extensive experience in both film and theater, but is relatively new to book narration.  Currently he has only one other title on Audible, the zombie apocalypse novel Carrier. However, his voice was right for the character of Justin Garrett, the protagonist in Titan Encounter.

Micah Hansen, the graphic artist for all my books, has completed the audiobook version of the Titan Encounter cover. In addition to ten other book covers, Micah has designed covers for music CDs and logos for business.

The Titan audiobook is expected to be just over five hours long and is scheduled for release an April 5th on both Audible.com and iTunes.

The Best Laid Plans

Events in October did not move as quickly as I hoped. A few projects went well, but most will take more time. Here is the rundown.

The audiobook version of Through Many Fires is now available. I expected it to be released in October but it didn’t become available until two days ago. Still, I am happy that it is on the market.

All of my books are now available on Smashwords, the leading distributor of indie author books and they will be handling U.S. and international distribution outside of the Amazon network. However, I thought all of my books would be distributed via Smashwords to Barnes & Noble Nook and Kobo ereaders in October. It now appears they will roll out during November.

I didn’t plan to release my books on Google Play this month, but when my youngest son mentioned it we checked it out. Both Titan Encounter and Through Many Fires are now available on Google Play. Final Duty should be available soon.

Click here for more information about any of my books.

So it is clear now that many of the projects that began in October will culminate in November and then I can devote more time to writing the sequel to Through Many Fires.

Audiobook Released

The Audiobook version of Through Many Fires was released today!

We started working on the audiobook of Through Many Fires on September 15th. We listened to audition tapes, had a cover designed and finally asked Kevin Pierce, a well-respected narrator and producer to handle the actual production.

My wife, Lorraine, took on the job of listening to the hours of reading, suggesting needed changes and then listening to the reading a second or third time. As you can imagine, this took several weeks. We then turned the project over to Audible.com for final technical checks.

Through Many Fires is now available in paperback, Kindle, online in most other ereader formats and as of today as an audiobook. It will soon be available on Nook, Kobo and Google Play.

As I post this on the blog I leaned over and checked this project off of the list beside my desk. Tomorrow I start the next project.

October Excitement

The month of October is going to be very busy and exciting.

The audiobook version of Through Many Fires is in post-production and should be available late in the month or early in November.

As the month roles along, we will also be releasing DRM free versions of my books on Smashwords. DRM, or Digital Rights Management, is a form of copyright protection that inhibits readers from sharing books. I want readers to be able to share my books.

Smashwords is the leading distributor of indie author books and will be handling U.S. and international distribution outside of the Amazon network.

Because of the Smashwords agreement, during the course of October all of my books will become available on the Nook and Kobo ereaders. Kobo is the dominate reader in Canada as well as parts of Europe and Asia. I’ll make announcements as each book becomes available.

Finally, I’m busy writing the sequel to Through Many Fires. That novel will be titled A Time to endure and will be available sometime in 2014.

Kevin Pierce

Kevin Pierce

Yesterday I finalized an agreement with Kevin Pierce to produce and narrate the novel. With over fifty projects completed, Kevin has produced more titles using the Audible.com marketplace, ACX, than any other individual producer. His narrations span the spectrum from fiction to non-fiction books. Topics include crime, entertainment, self-help, science fiction, survival, politics and more.

Within minutes of reaching an agreement with Kevin, I contacted Micah Hansen, the graphic artist for all my books and got him started on the audiobook cover. In addition to ten book covers, Micah has designed covers for CDs and logos for business.

The audiobook version of Through Many Fires will be released November 1st on both Audible.com and iTunes.
