Much Delayed New Release

A few years ago, doctors discovered that I had an autoimmune disorder. Treatment for it stifled my writing and delayed the third book of the Solar Storms Saga. However, doctors have been able to treat the illness and that has allowed me to resume writing. Consequently, the much-delayed third book in the Solar Storms Saga, Facing the Storm, has now been released!

In this series, several immense coronal mass ejections have hit the Earth, destroying most modern technology. Panic, starvation, and chaos spread across the world. The series follows several families as they struggle to survive and restore some semblance of civilization.

The first book in the series, The Storm Rises, is a sidequel introduction to the Solar Storms Saga. The book opens with, “A Humvee parked in front of his house couldn’t mean anything good.”

After camping with his oldest son, Major Dirk Franklin comes home to find that Humvee is parked by his home. His wife, Carol, tells him the news channels are talking about a storm on the sun. Moments later, he’s whisked away to a secret military facility in Portland. There, Major Franklin and others struggle to prepare for the coming collapse of society. As the world sinks into darkness, Franklin fights to save his family and the last threads of civilization.

The Storm Rises is a Cascade Award finalist that introduces some of the major characters and themes of the series. Because it’s an introduction, I called it book zero. From the start, my wife hated calling it book zero and because it has led to confusion, I’ll never do it again, but it seemed a good idea at the time.

The next book in the series is Through the Storm, the bestselling winner of two awards. This full-length novel tells the story of Major Franklin as he leads a motley array of soldiers and civilians trying to reach the last remnants of civilization. Hundreds of snow-covered miles lie between them, and gangs vying for control of the dwindling food.

Meanwhile, brothers Conner and Drake Evans must struggle with the usual issues of adolescence near the rural town of Riverside. As they fight to survive on their small farm, society collapses around them. Although much has been ripped from their lives, they have each other, and one other thing now more precious than gold—food. Many will kill to take it from them.

All these characters are brought together for an exciting climax in Facing the Storm.
