Among Fellow Authors
I recently attended the twelfth annual Southwest Washington Writers Conference. I’m proud to be one of the original founders of the event, and I’ve presented or volunteered at nearly every conference since it began. This year, Jaimee Walls and I gave a presentation on the value of critique groups.

The conference has grown tremendously over the years—despite taking a break during COVID—and, for the first time, it was completely sold out!
Featured speakers included Kristina McMorris, a New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, as well as acclaimed children’s author Rosanne Parry. One of my favorite speakers, Shawn Inmon, a well-known author of portal fiction, also returned to share his experience and wisdom.
The conference offered 24 workshops, covering fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, leaving me with the same problem I face every year: I still haven’t figured out how to attend several workshops at once.
If you live in the area and enjoy writing—or have always thought you might—I hope to see you there next year!
