As a prepper I don’t want to hurt anyone, but I want to be ready to defend myself.
Bows and arrows have always been of interest to me but, I admit, I’ve done little to develop my ability with them.
Read MoreI started this blog on August 21, 2012, with the release of my first book, Titan Encounter. Since that time, I’ve updated the website several times and I’m gradually updating the blog format and bringing it into this new journal. Back then, the sole purpose of the blog was to promote my books, but it gradually expanded to new topics. Sometimes I’ve mused about other things that are important to me, such as my family, my farm, rural life, and occasionally about politics and the country. However, I do try to limit politics.

Read MoreMarketing and publicity are part of being an author but, like most writers, I avoid them.
I’d rather stay in my office typing my next story than go to a party or even most meetings with other authors. It’s not as if I hate people. I don’t but, like most writers, I’m an introvert.
Read MoreI don’t just write survival or prepper-themed books, I live the life.
Many of the people who aren’t involved in prepping think of those who are as crazy. I think of prepping as insurance against unforeseen problems. Where I live in Lewis County, Washington state, it can flood this time of year. During winter storms the power can go out. I like knowing that I’m prepared.
Read MoreI write books about the need to be ready, but others write about how to be ready.
Apartment Prepper is one of the top blogs on readiness. There you will find information on urban survival and prepping.
Read MoreWhat would happen to you if a disaster were to strike tomorrow?
That is the opening question on the Survivor Jane website and it is a question all of us should be able to answer, but many of us can’t.
Read MoreWow! This has been an outstanding year.
Through Many Fires and A Time to Endure are side-by-side on the Amazon War Fiction bestseller list. Both have been higher on this list, but it is nice to see them together.
Read MoreLast night I sat at the dining room table and signed books.
Earlier, I had made a list of 39 people that would be receiving one, or more, of my novels. When all the books came from the printer on the same day I decided to just sit down, sign, and mail them all.
Read MoreMy vision went crazy on Saturday morning. That is the most concise way to describe it (double vision looking into a fractured mirror might be another). My heart was pounding. Both gradually cleared and an hour later my family convinced me to go to the hospital (stupid to delay, I know, but I’m a guy and like to deny my own mortality).

Read MoreYesterday, Through Many Fires reached number one on the Kindle Science Fiction Military, Post-Apocalyptic, and Dystopian bestseller lists.
During that time, the novel was the number 28th bestselling book on Amazon Kindle. As I write this it is hovering around number 33. This has been the best week of sales since I began publishing my writing.
Read MoreThrough Many Fires is again a bestseller, reaching #5 on the Amazon War Bestseller list.
What sparked the return to those lofty ranks is the upcoming release of the sequel, A Time to Endure. As part of the promotion we’ve lowered the ebook price of Through Many Fires to 99 cents…
Read MoreI usually avoid gatherings where writers read from their work.
I believe in my writing ability. I can draw the reader into the text and soon they hardly notice the words as they flow with the story, but when I read my own words I get nervous and often stumble. So, I avoid those kinds of get-togethers.
Read MoreI wrote the last words of A Time to Endure this morning.
Except for improving some word choices or clearing up a few sentences, the writing of the book is done and it is now in the editing process.
Read MoreMy wife received this from Amazon the other day.
Even though she is not a big fan of the military science fiction genre, as my first editor, Lorraine has read every line of these books—multiple times. That’s why it was amusing when she received the email from Amazon.
